So many of you have commented in such eloquent ways about the outcome of our election here in the US.  It is truly not only historic, but very emotional for many (myself included), and it makes me so proud to have participated and of my country for coming out in droves and speaking their voices in all their diversity.  I'm eager to see the team that President-Elect Obama puts together.  I'm hopeful that we can begin to engage in some honest (if difficult) discourse.  I'm excited to see where we go from here.

I think the auspices are favourable - even though people probably expect Obama to come up with miracles...

I can only say that I'm one really relieved European!

It has been eight long, long years of having an administration caught up in group think. I think Stephen Colbert said it best in his commentary.

You have to admire George Bush for his consistency. He believes the same thing on Wednesday that he did on Monday, regardless of what happened on Tuesday.

For the first time in eight years, we have hope that the administration will have open discussion of issues and actually welcome input and dissenting opinions.

To say nothing of having a living symbol of social change in charge. It cracked me up when they reported on CNN that Obama's Kenyan grandmother is slaughtering a cow for a celebration feast.

Maybe race will become less of a reason to vote for or against anyone. That's a trickle down effect that I like.

ROTFL. He hit it the nail on the head. That's one of the things that I appreciate most, willingness and ability to dialogue and to invite process rather than bounce from one reactive action to another.

I'm also very aware of diversity, invisible and obvious differences between people make us who we are and provide one of the most powerful resources our country could want. I'm excited that we have a president who (I hope) values that as much as I do.

I do not think this makes it all OK and that everything will be made right again -- I do think we are in for hard times and hard choices, but DAMN I FEEL GOOD! :-D

Agreed. It's not a panacea. But I'm hopeful that we can begin to enter a more mature dialogue and process with each other and the world. I feel pretty darn good, myself! *grins
