What makes certain stories shine (yours or others) in your eyes? What do you look for in a story? What draws you to read certain stories or certain writers?
Truth, feeling, honesty. Characterization that answers questions yet leaves me more questions to ask... I want to hear their voices, want them to be real enough to see (even only for the length of time I'm reading a drabble), I want to be transported. I enjoy stories that are like the Mirror of Erised... but moreso, I want to read stories that are the Mirrors of Smaerd and Seitilibissop.
Does anybody else get this crash after finishing a big or otherwise important (to you) story? Does anybody know why it happens?
I'm guessing it's like that downtime after runner's high combined with having a moment, after having been so busy intellectually and emotionally, of calm (before the next story/project)... After being at a concert (getting my face melted off), the quiet of traveling back from the venue seems so much bigger.
Does anybody else wonder why they do this and feel like they've just ripped off their skin and are waiting for the world's approval/approvation/rejection/indifference every time they post something?
Well, yeah. Con presentations, too. I've gotten used to the nausea.
