Welcome to Israel!

Here we are in Eilat... just a hop, skip and a jump away from Egypt.  It's reaaaaaaaly hot here, so how about  sitting by the water and getting some iced tea and having a light meal.  The fruits and vegetables here are fabulous and the pita is second to none!  I'm trying to persuade Severus to get into his swim trunks.  :)

See, Israel is filled with contrast and contradiction -- the desert lays right behind the sea!  Hagrid has wandered off and is investigating the desert wildlife.  We really should let him know when we're ready to leave...

Now that we've had some refreshment... let's head up to Jerusalem...  *hands everybody seashells... and... we're off!

This is the ampitheatre at Hebrew University on Mount Scopus.  This is where I went to school for undergrad.  This is the back part of campus, overlooking part of the city, just before twilight.  From different parts of the camput (which is, indeed, on a hill), you can see various parts of Jerusalem.

Parts of Jerusalem are very old (hence, "The Old City" which you can see part of, below), and part is very new and modern.  Below, you can see the famous "Wailing Wall".  When I was in school here, there wasn't security like this to get near the wall.  On the right, you can see women at prayer.    And below, a closer look at the enormous stones.  As you may know, pieces of paper filled with prayers written by people from all over the world are shoved into the cracks of the stones.

Now, how about a quick jump to the Northern part of the country before I let y'all go? :)  But first, a cup of outsanding Israeli coffee, and a lunch of falafel filled with as much cut up filling (veggies, pickles, hummus, relish) as you can stuff into the pita.

This is almost the Northernmost point in Israel, on the Western side of the country.  Not far from Haifa.  In fact, that coast in the distance is Haifa.

And the Kineret, which is on the Eastern side of the Northern part of Israel... beach chairs abandoned by a bunch of rowdy kids (no, officer, I have no idea who those kids might have been, nope) who had been chatting, with their feet in the surf :)

Hope you all enjoyed!  This is a lovely time of year in Israel :)  And the Israelis, very friendly... especially those dark Israeli men...
