If you are not on [info]pyjamapants ' flist, but are friends with [info]mischievous_t , please head over to read this LJ post about some important events from this past weekend.

Feel free to boost the signal (via Miss T's request).

Thank you, thank you, thank you, all of you for the wonderful birthday cards, texts, messages and posts! I've been climbing out from -- I don't even know what -- stuff to do, work, kids, house, exchange story that's eating my brain... *runs in circles

But can I just say that you guys ROCK. I got more birthday love here than anywhere, and I adore you all. If I waited until I accumulated the list and posted it here, I'd never get around to sending my love back to you, so I hope you can forgive me for the group hug and thank you.

Now, back to that exchange story. :)

Title: Surfacing
Recipient: Slashykink
Author: (machshefa)
Characters/Pairings: John/Sherlock
Rating: R
Warnings: None
Summary: He’s here. Of course he is. He can no more stay away than can I.

But my vision blurs, and I know this must be a dream because I’ve come for Moriarty, but it’s John who steps out to greet me.

Written for the second round of [ profile] holmestice  as a pinch hit.

There aren’t enough words to thank my alpha/beta/cheerleading team. You somehow manage to hold my hand and hold my feet to the fire. Having you on the team makes everything I write better.

Thanks to: annietalbot, bluestocking78, dickglouster, scoffy, pyjamapants, bethbethbeth, and subversa.

I'm a bit late here... sorry about that!

I am pretty sure that anything major in terms of preferences is already in my prompt post. Mostly, I want you, my dearest writer or artist, to go with your muse and enjoy your process. I trust you. :)

One thing I can say here, though, is that if you are so inclined, I'd be quite pleased with a Sherlock BBC element or crossover to my story (John/Sherlock is love). Not making that specific request, of course, just (per the mod's post from before signups) letting you know that I'm open to that sort of thing. :)

Mostly, have fun! And thank you. :)

Hi everybody,

It's been a wonderful four days here in NH. The con was lovely, laid-back and filled with fantastic people (old friends and new ones, too). We had a marvelous time talking, catching up, debating HP and discussing writing. I can't think of anything we missed apart from having even MORE time to catch up one on one (is there ever enough time?). The hotel staff was helpful and worked so hard to make our stay easy. Kudos to them and to the con organizers (this was their first time out -- an amazing accomplishment!)

and more details )
Today is slow-moving and lovely. I head to the airport later this afternoon. I hope the airport isn't insane.

I have very few pictures. Can't wait to see others' shots when they go up. Yay!

*hugs and love to you all

Title: Incandescence
Author: [ profile] machshefa
Fandom verse: Sherlock (BBC)
Pairing/Characters: John/Sherlock
Rating: R
Warnings: None
Disclaimer: Not mine, just playing.
Summary: Sherlock is a world of light. Shooting stars and bright explosions flooding you with love and hope and need. But when he’s far away, and these days, even when he’s near, all you feel is a bottomless yearning for something to fill the emptiness.

This story stands alone. I think of it as taking place in the same universe as the “Evidence” (on LJ, on AO3) series, though it’s not part of the series itself and takes place at some indeterminate time after “Vigilance” (on LJ, on AO3).

Summary: Sherlock has never before had cause to take such careful care of his heart.

This instalment in the Evidence series follows directly after Evidence, which can be found here on LJ or at AO3. And Resonance, which can be found here on LJ or at AO3.

Inspired in large part by a “Make me a Monday” request from [ profile] morganstuart  (here), and it expanded from there.

Your touch always makes my writing and storytelling better.  This is my first story in the Sherlock fandom. Since I had no plans to write in this fandom to begin with, it's clear that I have no idea whether this will be my last. ;)  *covers the eyes of those who fear I've abandoned Severus*  I couldn't help it, guys.  Sherlock wouldn't stop talking.

Allow me to say that Wendy-the-yoga-teacher is awesome.  The kewl move she taught us in class on Monday was awesome (incorporating handstand with a transition to Chattarunga into Sun Salutations).  My shoulder is slightly less impressed.  Maybe I could have done the sequence less than 8 times in a row.  Maybe, but I'm not sure.

*** interval during which Machshefa gets some Arnica gel (note: not at Osco, yes at Whole Foods... should have known that). ***

Things work continue to be overbooked... I vacillate between being mind-bendingly grateful to be this busy and feeling flat out exhausted.  I suppose this is the unspoken cost of self-employment.  Ah, well.  Things yoga continue to be really good (shoulder soreness aside).  I've been practicing regularly for six months and I can feel myself stronger and more flexible.  I love how I feel when I practice; the groundedness combined with the intense physical exertion is really remarkable (I do Vinyasa Flow, mostly).

Finally, and most importantly, if you haven't yet checked out
[info]the_castle_lj , please come by and join in our first conversation.  We're talking about identity and fandom and fandom identity and... well, come see!  I'm still not caught up on all the postings and am eager to jump in and talk about what everybody is saying.  I posted my own reflections, too.  I'm awed and humbled by the observations and the honesty in this discussion. It's thought-provoking and just wonderful!  *loves the participants*  Thanks to [info]juno_magic  for setting it all up!

Check it out!  There's so much spectacular stuff on offer over there.  Fic, fic-related services, amazing crafts (knitted items, jewelry, ceramics...), digital art, food.  It's wonderful!

I've put up two offerings of my own:

Psych!Beta services and a Tarot (or Ogham) card reading.

So, have at it!  It's for an excellent cause!

[ profile] fizzabella1110  made fanart for King of Swords!  It's amazing that she chose the same Tarot deck that I did for the illustration (she began work on this before I posted the tarot images on LJ when I finished the story.)

I'm thrilled with every glorious image.  I'm even more delighted that the story inspired her this way. [ profile] fizzabella1110 , I can't thank you enough!

This is the perfect impetus for me to upload the banner to the archives along with the also-gorgeous one [ profile] talesofsnape  made many moons ago... and to also add the amazing drawing of Severus and Hermione curled up together on the couch that [ profile] cecelle  did for Chapter 4: Place of Promise.

*happy sigh

On a day filled with ice and freezing wind, this was a marvelous shot of warm happiness.

machshefa: (need minions)
Hi everybody.

Well, I went to begin to read and attempt to vote in the DH Awards and decided that a spreadsheet would really help me keep track of it all.  I'd intended to add in things like pairings/characters and length of stories so that I (and others who might want the spreadsheet) could use it to manage all the fic reading, but, alas, that part isn't done yet.

Here it is so far.  I've left the spreadsheet open for editing to anybody who has the link.  I did this so that nominees and nominators could pop in and fill in those blanks themselves if they chose to do so.  I don't know how quickly I'll be able to complete those fields of additional information, but I'll try.  Please feel free to make a copy for yourself if you'd find it useful in keeping track of your reading and voting.  All I ask is that if you do fill in additional fic information into those blank fields, that you leave that information on the public document for the rest of us to see as well.

Feel free to repost this outside the scope of my flist.

Also, I apologize in advance for any typos.  If I've made an egregious error in data entry, please correct it!  I'd be grateful.

I hope this is helpful to somebody!

ETA:  I did not yet enter the Foreign fics or the Author list.  Neither of those felt as overwhelming to me, so I entered the categories that did first...

Namir guards the puzzle (a gift for Little Guy from Grandma) from all interlopers.

Behold Shoko's regal beauty.

At the vet a few weeks ago, Namir was 10lbs and Shoko was 12lbs.  And they're not done growing yet. :)
machshefa: (Ohm)
I saw DH with the girls last night, and it was good.  Really, really good.  No spoilers here, but I'll just say that the emotional tone and rhythm of this movie felt spot on to me, in stark contrast to HBP which was choppy and disconnected (and disconnecting).  I started to tear up in the first scene with Hermione and felt choked up many times throughout.  The scope of this story continues to boggle me.

I've been taking a rest post completion of "King of Swords" and it's been good.  More fic reading, more tv watching (SHERLOCK FTW!), and just general hanging out.  I'm trying to give myself space and perspective and hoping to find my land legs.  There are some identity shifts happening, methinks, and it'll be interesting to see where it goes from here.  *hugs to the flist for being so supportive when I get all whiny and wibbly...

Given the resumption of fic reading, I'm thinking of pulling out my [ profile] fangirl_tour  and [ profile] crack_broom  recs from the last year or two and wandering over to the Deathly Hallows Awards and making some nominations.  :)

Finally, I'm worried about the number of flisters who have suffered from traumatic and overwhelming events lately.  *hugs you all

I wanted to share a resource that I hope will help, or at least will be a step towards healing.  Some of you have heard me talk about EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which is a wonderful treatment for Trauma and Anxiety.  It sounds like voodoo (I think), but there is a great deal of empirical data supporting its usefulness, so much so that the VA hospitals here in the US utilize it, and many, many therapists around the world use it in their practices but also after natural and other types of disasters (the EMDR Institute runs a Humanitarian Assistance Program).

The best part about it is that it works quickly.  I've been using it for about seven years and continue to be impressed and amazed at how helpful it is.  It's a real gift to have a tool like that in my therapeutic toolbox, let me tell you.  I'd be happy to give an explanation of what it is and how it works if people are interested.  The websites do provide some of that, but I'd be happy to add my personal experience as a therapist using it regularly.

Anyway, the way to find a therapist trained in EMDR (and you need someone trained, not someone who read an article once and is trying to replicate the process) is here or here.

Hugs and healing thoughts to everybody.  I hope that this next year brings health, healing and peace.
machshefa: (runs with lightsaber)
Yesterday on gchat (not a chat request, but a request to send me a message, which I've never seen before on gchat) and no matter how I clicked and clicked "accept", the page wouldn't respond.  I didn't recognize the name, but it was between appointments and I was rushed, and I know that people's email addresses don't always line up with their LJ names.   When I reloaded the gmail page, the request disappeared and I have no idea how to get it back again.

So if it was any of you reading this, please try again or email me at machshefa1 at gmail dot com.

I'm so sorry!
ETA: It has belatedly occurred to me (because sleep has not been my friend) that whoever this person is could just as easily have emailed me since they obviously have my email address.  *headdesk
